International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS) and Exhibition

September 16 to 21, 2012;Daegu, Korea

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing committee of IBS 2012, it is our great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 15th International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS) and Exhibition, which will be held from September 16 to 21, 2012 in Daegu, one of the most dynamic cities in Korea.
Organized under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), IBS, which is held every four years on a different continent, is recognized as the premier international conference in the rapidly growing field of biotechnology. The mission of the IBS is to promote R&D in all aspects of basic and applied biotechnology. The history of IBS dates back to 1960. For the first time the IBS will be held in Korea with the fastest growing economy in the world.

Our society is facing unprecedented challenges including resources shortage, environmental deterioration, biodiversity loss, and economic and social imbalances. The overall theme of IBS 2012 is “Innovative Biotechnology for a Green World and beyond”. Nine theme areas covering all aspects of biotechnology will be arranged, including: 1) Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2) Medical Biotechnology, 3) Agricultural and Food Biotechnology, 4) Bioenergy & Biorefinery, 5) Environmental Biotechnology, 6) Applied Microbiology, 7) Process Biotechnology, 8) Biosensors and Nanobiotechnology, and 9) Biosafety, Bioeconomy, Bioploicy, Bioeducation, Bioethics etc.

IBS 2012 will be designed to offer a unique opportunity not only to take a critical examination of the milestone achievements in biotechnology but more significantly, to discuss how biotechnology can contribute to global sustainability in the 21st century. The program will feature contributions from both established and young scientists and engineers, and will provide a platform for representatives from all over the world.
We are confident that this event will bring together scientists, engineers, business leaders and government officials to foster and enhance collaborative contacts, and to exchange information in the many interdisciplinary areas of modern biotechnology. We look forward to welcoming you to Daegu in September 2012!

Sincerely,

Ho Nam Chang, Ph.D., President, IBS 2012,KAIST, Korea

Environmental Microbiology & Biotechnology Conference 2012

- In the frame of the Knowledge-Based Bio & Green Economy -

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to bring to your attention this conference which is addressed to explore the major advances, frontiers and applications of Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology in the modern area of the knowledge-based bio and green economy.
In particular, the conference will focus on the sustainable decontamination of polluted habitats, water resource purification and reuse, biofixation of climate change-inducing gases and the production of biobased chemicals, materials and fuels from biowaste or/and via the exploitation and management of novel microbes from non conventional or impacted habitats.
These are aspects of modern Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology which should enable this forum to address several of the major “Europe 2020” priorities and to contribute to build up a more sustainable and competitive knowledge-based economy in Europe and in the Partner Countries.

I warmly invite you to join us to provide your contribution to the discussion and implementation of such subjects of major relevance for our future. Low registration fees, awards for excellent young scientists together with the opportunity to publish the papers presented in New Biotechnology have been planned to facilitate and better valorize your participation in our conference.

Sincerely,
Fabio Fava, Chair of the Conference

Phytotechnologies- as plant-based strategies to clean water, soil, air and provide ecosystem services- have an effective power beyond their science when integrated into our managed landscapes.

This conference will bring the scientists, designers, engineers, builders, regulators, and users working with phytotechnologies into one conversation to promote successful implementation and operation of plant solutions that build an ecological relationship with the landscapes and communities they serve. In addition to the full suite of phytotechnology topics, special expertise in the Pacific Northwest will offer in-depth training and exploration of urban stormwater management, sustainable built environments, constructed wetlands, and ecosystem services and markets. Pre-conference hands-on training and post-conference tours will offer participants a chance to see projects in action.

Abstracts are due by March 15, 2011. Please follow these: required guidelines

IWA Specialist Conference 2011 --- Presentation

On behalf of the Organizing committee, we are delighted to invite you to the Water & Industry 2011 international conference. This event is the latest in the IWA Chemical Industries Specialist Group conference series. It will address issues related to wastewater, gas and solid waste management in industry with a special focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

In a global scenario of increasing energy prices and quest for sustainable human activities, the industrial waste treatment of the XXI century must undergo a severe revision of its current practices. These must aim at developing a new generation of energy-efficient and resource recovery processes, while complying with the ever stricter environmental regulations. Water & Industry 2011 will be held in Valladolid, Spain. This will be the first time a conference from the Chemical Industries Specialist Group is taking place in Spain.

Valladolid University is one of Spain’s and Europe’s oldest Universities (13th century). Valladolid is located approximately 1 h north-west of Madrid and well connected by air, rail and road to the most important cities in Spain and Europe. Conference attendees will enjoy accessibility to world-class conference facilities and beautiful historical sightseeing tours in the land of castles and vineyards. Valladolid is also only 1 h drive from a number of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

This conference will focus on the latest developments in energy-efficient and sustainable waste (wastewater, off-gas, sludge) treatment in the industry of the XXI century, bringing together professionals from academia, industry and public administrations. The event aims at providing a forum for environmental and chemical engineers, microbiologists, chemists and policy makers to present their most recent technological and scientific breakthroughs in the fields of management, characterization, minimization and abatement of industrial wastes. We therefore invite you to come and enjoy this exciting event in the heart of Spain.
